Welcome to Rostock University Library! This page is intended to provide an overview of our library services, information on how to find literature, and guidance on using the library, on site and online, in order to help you make the most of what’s on offer.

On-site features: reading, studying, copying

The University Library’s four main locations are distributed across town and house different subject areas:

Campus Library Südstadt

Located at Albert-Einstein-Straße 6, the Campus Library Südstadt houses the subjects Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Medicine / Life Sciences, Economics, Social Sciences, Law, Political Science, Teaching Professions, and Sports Studies.

Education, History, and Antiquity Library

The Education, History, and Antiquity Library is located on floors 1 through 7 of the University’s Humanities building at August-Bebel-Straße 28.

Linguistics and Literary Studies Library

The Linguistics and Literary Studies Library is located at Schwaansche Straße 3 a.

Theology and Philosophy Library

The Theology and Philosophy Library is located at Altbettelmönchstraße 4, also known as ‘Michaeliskloster’.

Discovery and the Catalogue

You can use either the Discovery tool or our Catalogue to search for all physical and electronic resources available at Rostock University Library. Try out both search tools to see which one is right for you!

How to access electronic resources

You have full access to our online collection as long as you’re logged in to the University’s network. You have options to log on remotely:

Access from home

Read below for guidance on finding electronic books, journals, and databases, as well as useful search tools and tips:

E-Books

E-books are full-text electronic books that you can read on screen. You can use Discovery or the Catalogue to search our e-book collection.

Databases

Databases are virtual libraries collecting electronic resources. The best tool to search for subject-specific databases is DBIS.

E-Journals

E-journals are online journals that are generally published on the publisher’s website. You can search our e-journals both in Discovery and in the Catalogue.

How to access the University network from within the library

You are automatically connected to the University network if you log in on a library PC. You can also use your own device to connect via Wi-Fi.
