Archive Activities
Anyone wishing to gain an insight into the university’s early history or to take a look at the extensive collections is warmly invited to visit the exhibitions in the main university building at Universitätsplatz 1.The treasure chamber is on the ground floor and the collection gallery is on the first floor of the right-hand wing.
The exhibitions are open from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.
Admission to all exhibitions and events is free.
Film evenings (Treasury)
The University Archive is once again presenting a varied film programme this year.
Exhibition “200 Years of The Isolated State” (Treasury)
To mark the 200th anniversary of the publication of Johann Heinrich von Thünen’s (1783–1850) pioneering work The Isolated State in Relation to Agriculture and Political Economy, the University Archive is presenting an exhibition on the life and work of the economist, agricultural scientist, model farmer and honorary doctor of the University of Rostock.
Exhibition “Rural Life in Mecklenburg: Historical Photographs” (Treasury)
Accompanying the exhibition “200 Years of The Isolated State”, historical photographs of rural life in Mecklenburg are shown. They offer an impression of what everyday life for farmers in Thünen’s time may have looked like.
Exhibition “Between Idyll and Work” (Collections Corridor)
This exhibition explores rural life as depicted in graphic art of the 19th and 20th centuries and presents a multifaceted selection from the university collection. At its centre are depictions of farmers, village and landscape that reveal life in the countryside beyond familiar clichés.
Permanent exhibition of University Collections (Collections Corridor)
Objects from the extensive university collections in medicine, geology, biology and classical studies are on display.
Permanent exhibition on the history of the University (Treasury)
The University of Rostock looks back on a history of more than 600 years. As part of the permanent exhibition, documents and artefacts from the founding period are on display, including the deed of foundation, the matriculation register, and the university’s sceptres and seals.
